We had such an amazing performance class! Before the piano performances, students shared their research about African American composers, scientist, activists, etc., that inspired them in honor of Black History Month.

To add to the occasion, we had a special guest - Jackie Hill, a musician, naturalist and quilt artist - who shared her historical research about Thomas A. Dorsey!  Mrs. Hill has created many beautiful quilts inspired by compositions written by Dorsey.  She has also created quilts based upon her own poetry and compositions. Her quilts have been on display in various locations.  She has received awards for some of them.

Mrs. Hill does a lot of volunteer work at Hopelands Gardens in Aiken, SC.  She will be gifting each of my students that visit the Garden hand made quilts created by her!  We are thankful for her visit and look forward to seeing her again at Hopelands!
