2022 Pollinator Awareness

River receives a certificate and pin for his participation in the Great Pollinator Census! Since he is one of my new students, this was his first time participating. How awesome is that! ♪

We've done it again! 

A round of applause to students that participated in the Great Georgia Pollinator Census! An additional shout-out to 2 students that have participated each year since the start of the event and have also created compositions about pollinators that inspired them. Their names are:

♪ Kennedy Green and Charlie Cathey!!! ♪

Way to go, Kennedy and Charlie! May you continue the tradition.  

River (photo above) is a new student that joined us for his first census count. He is doing such a fantastic job as a student and has even begun creating nature compositions. Keep up the fine work, River! 

During the month, we did pollinator themed piano theory assignments, games, and worksheets that were clues for letterboxing. The clues to finding these hidden letterboxes are music theory questions to find the various locations that the boxes are placed. Some of the letterboxes are hidden at parks that we visit, and others are hidden at my studio.

I purchased a magnetic dry erase white board for the Spelling Bee game. Now, we have more space to put the supplies when playing.

Recently, I learned of a park near my piano studio that was hosting the Georgia Pollinator Census! The name of the park is Reed Creek Nature Park. Being new to having a studio in this section of town, I didn't know that there was a nature park with an education center that was close by. I cannot fully express how thrilled I was at learning about it!! I dropped by to check it out and to setup arrangements to bring my students. While there, I had the opportunity to meet the loving and outgoing educators who work at Reed Creek. They showed me the beautiful reptiles that they have and allowed me to hold  a couple of their snakes! I also was able to participate in the first day of the pollinator count there.  Later, my students had a chance to visit this awesome nature park and take a class to inspire them for their next composition assignment! I will share more about that in my next post along with examples of their compositions. For now, I will share a few photos that my students and I took during the pollinator census. Each student that participated received  a certificate from Georgia University and an "I Counted" pin.
