Suzuki Piano Course Materials

-Stereo Equipment
You need a CD player and good speakers. Program the CD player to repeat the disc multiple times. It doesn't hurt to have more than one copy so that you can also listen in the car. Listening to Suzuki Piano Basics on iTune is also very useful for your child to be able to listen in a really concentrated way. Since the more your child listens, the faster they will learn, is your stereo equipment in a place so that when it is on, your child can hear it? (At mealtimes, in the family room, etc.) It is very helpful to have a CD player in your child's bedroom so that they can listen as they fall asleep.

-Piano
You need the best piano in the best condition that you can have in your situation.  Making music is a combination of hearing and touching, both of which are very sensitive in a child. If your piano has poor action, broken ivories and poor tone, you cannot expect your child to stay interested. The more your piano can do in terms of range of sound and tone, the more interested your child will be.

Adjustable benches are ideal for young children learning piano. Regular piano benches are built for adults. Small children need different-sized benches, according to their height. An adjustable bench will "grow" with your child, allowing for correct posture at all ages (and correct bench height for different children within one family, too). If an adjustable piano bench is unavailable, the regular bench may be mounted on a platform of boards. The teacher will help in determining the correct height.

Young Suzuki students use adjustable footstools so that their feet are in a comfortable position while playing and not dangling uncomfortably.

Developing good piano posture is very important. If the feet are dangling, the whole body moves while playing and this can put strain on the lower back and spine. The arms will also move in unexpected ways, which can lead to pain in the back, shoulder or wrists.
