Voice Lessons
*Please Read "How To Begin".
It is my recommendation that voice students also study piano so they can learn to read music properly. Additionally, studying piano helps voice students with ear training and sight singing. Most importantly, voice students who study piano can play their vocal lines when the teacher isn’t present during weekly practice. They can check themselves to make sure they are singing the correct notes, and sometimes even accompany themselves while singing. Initially I can accommodate families by splitting the lesson so it’s half piano and half voice or some other time arrangement. For piano/voice split students, a minimum 45-minute lesson length is highly recommended to ensure the teacher has enough time to work on both skills during the lesson. Otherwise, 30 minute lessons are a good place for beginning voice only students. As the student progresses, teachers will begin conversations with parents about lengthening lessons, but prior to doing so, the student needs to have demonstrated at numerous lessons: the physical stamina to have a longer lesson, proficiency at increasingly more difficult repertoire, as well as healthy singing and practice habits. Lessons length and frequency may also be increased if a student is considering competitions and auditions. Below are the books that students will be using. They may be purchased at your local piano store or from Amazon.
